NCAA Basketball: Top 10 players to wear jersey No. 33 in 2023-24 season
By Joey Loose
4. Garry Clark (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi)
Despite being from St. Louis, Clark has spent his collegiate career at schools down in Texas. His freshman year was spent at the non-D1 level at Western Texas College before finding a spot at Tarleton State the following year. Not much came of that season with the Texans, but Clark has found a larger role since transferring to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He became a starting forward and put up respectable numbers in his junior year.
That first season in Corpus Christi saw him put up 13.2 points and 8.1 rebounds a game while making 59% of his shots inside the arc. Clark fit nicely into the Islanders’ starting lineup, becoming both top scorer and leading rebounder for the team this past season. It’s a season that ended in 21 wins and a 2nd place finish in the Southland, while Clark himself scooped up First Team All-Southland honors for his fantastic play.
Among the most notable things during nonconference play was Clark’s 26-point, 10-rebound effort in a road win over UTRGV. He wouldn’t quite match that point total again, but had some great outings during Southland play, including a 22-point, 14-rebound affair against Nicholls State and three straight 20-point games in early March. This squad couldn’t quite survive McNeese State but put together a great season and Clark was clearly a major reason for that success.
