9. Fousseyni Drame (Duquesne)

There were several contributors to this year’s success at Duquesne and you can’t discount what Drame brought to the Dukes. A forward originally from Mali, he began his basketball career with three seasons at Saint Peter’s, aiding in the Peacocks’ run to the Elite Eight in year three. Drame then had a prominent position with La Salle as a senior before finding a different home in the A-10 for his final year of eligibility.

In that lone season with Duquesne, Drame put up 6.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, mostly comig off the bench for the Dukes. He put up some of the best shooting numbers of his long career and was also a solid rebounder in the A-10. He’d help lead the Dukes to a 25-win campaign that featured both a fantastic run in the A-10 Tournament and an upset win in the Big Dance over BYU.

Drame was notable with 15 points and 11 rebounds in an early win over Stony Brook and had his share of moments. He played well with 11 points against his former team Saint Peter’s and later on had 16 points and 14 rebounds in a nice win at St. Bonaventure. He’d actually start the last four games of the season, dropping 12 rebounds against VCU in the A-10 title game before ending his career on a high note with 13 points in the Tourney loss to Illinois two days after besting BYU.
