6. Po’Boigh King (North Carolina Central)

King is a North Carolina native who had successful at the high school level in his home state before departing for Pennsylvania. There he’d begin his collegiate journey at Harcum College, but he’d only stay a single season before being lured to the D1 level. This past season was his first with North Carolina Central and certainly a new experience, but he took to it quite well, becoming a vital weapon for the Eagles.

This brilliant sophomore season saw him average 14.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in his first D1 experience. He made more than half of his 2-point attempts and a decent clip from outside the arc and adjusted well to new surroundings. King became the second-leading scorer for the Eagles and aided them in a 2nd place finish in the MEAC. His fine work earned him Third Team All-MEAC honors after great strides as an underclassman.

The competition wasn’t exactly top-level, but King showed his talent when he could, like in a 26-point affair against Virginia-Lynchburg, a non-D1 school. A few weeks later he’d score 21 in a road win over Coastal Carolina and played more consistent basketball during the conference season. His 34-point, 8-rebound outing against Delaware State was clearly the highlight, and he’ll look to build on this as a junior next season.
