10. Tyrese Hunter (Texas)

The Big 12 has been some of the best basketball in the country in recent years and Hunter has seen that firsthand. He spent his freshman season productively at Iowa State before transferring to Texas two years ago. He hasn’t necessarily taken that massive step forward since joining the Longhorns, but he has been a top-level guard in the Big 12.

As a junior, Hunter just averaged 11.1 points and 4.1 assists per game, with the best shooting numbers of his career. He hasn’t had the same type of steal or assists numbers as earlier in his career, but he still played an important role on another nice season for Texas. Though his team would finish at .500 in the tough Big 12, it did end in another trip to the Big Dance.

Hunter had a few 20-point efforts early in conference play when he started to find his shooting stroke after a relatively slow start to the year. His 30-point, 7-assists outing in the regular season finale against Oklahoma was perhaps his season highlight, later scoring 13 points in the season-ending loss to Tennessee in the Big Dance. Again, Hunter isn’t here to drop 20 every night but continues to stand out as a decent weapon; we’ll see how he develops next year at Memphis.
