8. Tre Mitchell (Kentucky)

Mitchell has really bounced around in his collegiate career. A former Top 100 recruit, he spent a pair of years at UMass before brief stops at Texas and West Virginia in the Big 12. For this most recent season, Mitchell found a home in the SEC at Kentucky, becoming a veteran presence for John Calipari’s unit. Things didn’t exactly transpire as expected for the Wildcats, though Mitchell had a solid season himself.

Emerging in importance in that frontcourt, Mitchell averaged 10.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for the Wildcats. He did miss several games to injury in February, but was still among the best rebounders and shot blockers in the SEC. Kentucky’s postseason finished shockingly early in that upset against Oakland, though Mitchell’s veteran presence was important with several freshmen in the lineup.

He wasn’t putting up the same numbers as years earlier in the A-10, but Mitchell was still doing work for Kentucky. He dropped 22 points on Saint Joseph’s and 23 on Georgia while racking up a number of double-doubles in league play. Mitchell actually had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds in their season-ending loss to Oakland, though that unfortunate ending doesn’t undermine the work he put in at his fourth school.
