NCAA Basketball: Top 10 players to wear jersey No. 5 in 2023-24 season

8. Daniss Jenkins (St. John’s)
The road to the Big East was certainly quite the journey for Jenkins. His underclassman years were spent at Pacific, where he grew into a decent scorer for the Tigers before opting to transfer to Iona in 2022. After impressive work with the Gaels, Jenkins then followed head coach Rick Pitino to St. John’s and played an impactful role in year one with the Red Storm, even if this season didn’t end as expected.
In his initial season at the power conference level Jenkins would average 14.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in a great effort. After putting up great numbers in the MAAC, he nearly copied those numbers a year later against much tougher foes, earning Second Team All-Big East and leading St. John’s to a 5th place finish. Not only was Jenkins the leading scorer on the Red Storm but also ranked among the league leaders in both assists and steals.
After playing well in early wins over North Texas and Utah, Jenkins really found his footing by conference play, with a slew of 20-point efforts. He had a season-high 27 points in an upset win over Creighton and had also scored 25 in a tough loss at Xavier. His season ended on a high note, as Jenkins matched that 27-point effort in a season-ending loss to UConn in the conference tournament, while his assist numbers were also higher during league play.
