It’s been a wild offseason for all NCAA Basketball teams across the country, especially for programs at the mid-major level. Whether it is an influx of players departing for the high-major level or coaches jumping ship to the power-five ranks, many mid-major teams have faced substantial blows to their roster this offseason.

However, that certainly isn’t the case for all mid-major programs. Entering the 2024-25 men’s college basketball season, many programs at the mid-major level have the pieces set in place to make noise and put together a strong season with hopes of making a run to the NCAA Tournament in March. Here, we will discuss the top 20 mid-major teams to buy stock into.

No. 20 - Murray State Racers

The Murray State Racers were one of the biggest mid-major winners of the offseason. Even Sean Paul, writer for the Field of 68, can attest to that.

Although the Racers struggled last season, Steve Prohm went to work in the portal, adding KyeRon Lindsay (Texas Tech), double-digit scorer Terrance Harcum (Appalachian State) and Kylen Milton (Arkansas Pine-Bluff), who averaged 17 PPG last season. The Racers will return over 50% of its scoring and look like a dark horse contender in the MVC this year. Buy stock in the Racers before it's too late.

No. 19 - Wofford Terriers

Speaking of returning minutes, the Wofford Terriers will return 84.3% of its minutes last season -- the third-highest in college basketball, according to BartTorvik’s preseason projections. If there is one way to establish consistency at the mid-major level -- which is extremely hard to accomplish -- it’s to return the nucleus of last year’s team.

Last year's leading scorer, Corey Tripp, is back. Dillon Bailey is back, helping establish a strong backcourt in Spartanburg alongside Tripp. Kyler Filewich, one of the better rebounders in the SoCon last season, is also back. Year three of the Dwight Perry era will look to have the Terriers compete in the top half of its conference, making Wofford a sure-fire mid-major team to buy stock into this offseason.
