NCAA Basketball: Top-20 mid-major teams to buy stock into entering 2024-25 season
No. 12 - Towson Tigers
Pat Skerry has done a noteworthy rebuild throughout his 13 years leading the Towson Tigers. After three straight 20+ win seasons, the Tigers will look to take another step forward this season thanks to a strong core returning from last year’steam.
What makes Towson's identity unique from the rest of its conference is its balanced scoring. Not one player averaged over 11.0 PPG, yet five players were in the nine-through-10 range. Christian May, who had one of the more impactful second-year jumps in the CAA last season, is back. Dylan Williamson and Tyler Tejada were instant-impact first-year pieces the previous season. Both expect to have a significant role next season. If the Towson Tigers can improve its offensive efficiency numbers, this will be a trendy mid-major team to buy stock come March.
No. 11 - South Florida Bulls
Amir Abdur-Rahim was among the most impactful first-year head coaches from the 2023 coaching carousel. Abdur-Rahim improved the South Florida Bulls’ win total from 14 to 25, winning the AAC regular season and even cracking the AP Top 25 in early March.
Unfortunately for South Florida, the transfer portal wasn’t so kind to them. Chris Youngblood is off to Alabama. Kasean Pryor is off to Louisville. Selton Miguel is off to Maryland. Despite this, instilling doubt -- and not buying stock -- in Abdur-Rahim’s Bulls is ill-advised.
Kobe Knox and Jayden Reid expect to take a step forward. Quincy Ademokoya, who played for Abdur-Rahim in 2022-23 at Kennesaw State, looks to be an instant-impact transfer. De’Ante Green (Florida State) is an interesting portal piece to monitor. The pieces they added make sense. Even if the South Florida Bulls may look different this season, this is a mid-major team worthy of buying stock into.
