8. Texas Longhorns

Overall, it was a solid year under the first full season with Rodney Terry. The Longhorns finished with a 21-13 (9-9) record, narrowly falling to Tennessee in the Round of 32.

Entering 2024-25, the Longhorns had an up-and-down, tempestuous offseason, losing the likes of Max Abmas, Dylan Disu, Tyrese Hunter (Memphis) and Dillion Mitchell (Cincinnati). They return only 20% of their minutes, according to BartTorvik’s updated preseason rankings.

Despite this, Rodney Terry made splashes in the transfer portal that fit their desire to score the basketball at a high clip this season. Another player who can score the basketball?

That would be incoming five-star freshman Tre Johnson -- a projected one-and-done --  who should fit seamlessly in a Longhorns roster littered with pure scorers.

Johnson, ESPN's 5th-best recruit in the 2024 recruiting class, is a natural on the offensive end of the floor. At 6-foot 6 with a long wingspan, Johnson gets downhill quickly as a confident and efficient scorer.

Even if Texas may look different next season and has welcomed a high volume of transfers, the addition of Tre Johnson gives the Longhorns one of the higher upsides in the SEC next season. AS a projected one-and-done player, Johnson’s impact will be felt immediately in his inaugural, and likely only, season in Austin.
