NCAA Basketball: Top 25 offseason winners entering 2024-25 season
No. 19 Texas Longhorns: Scoring won’t be an issue
It’s hard to find a program with as tumultuous, up-and-down of an offseason as the Longhorns.
On one hand, the Longhorns only return 20.8% of its minutes, losing its top four leading scorers in Max Abmas, Dylan Disu, Tyrese Hunter (Memphis) and Dillon Mitchell (Cincinnati).
On the other hand, Rodney Terry attacked the portal aggressively, landing an abundance of high-scoring pieces, making Texas a winner this offseason. Incoming to Austin include Tramon Mark (Arkansas), who led the Razorbacks in scoring (16.2) and Jordan Pope (Oregon State), who also led his team in scoring (17.6). Arthur Kaluma (K-State) was a late June addition, who averaged 14.4 PPG and seven RPG in the Little Apple last season.
Add in a pair of Indiana State transfers in Julian Larry, who shot 46% from three and Jayson Kent, who led the Sycamores’ high-octane offense in eFG% at 69 percent, according to Hoop Math, there will be no shortage of high-level scorers looking to make their mark on the Forty Acres.
Rodney Terry rebounded extremely well after facing big-time losses. How he pieces the high-scoring pieces together remains TBD. However, if there is one for-sure thing, it’s that scoring will not be an issue for the Longhorns as they enter their first season in the SEC.
