12. Saint Louis Billikens

In this new era of the transfer portal, coaches who go from one school to a bigger one sometimes bring their best players over. That happened when Josh Schertz left a 32-win Indiana State team to go to Saint Louis, bringing with him two of the team’s best players.

Robbie Avila is a 6’10 center, known for his elite versatility and passing ability. He averaged 17.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg, and 4.1 apg, shooting 39% from deep on over four attempts a game. As one of the best offensive players in all of NCAA Basketball, Avila will be a nightmare mismatch for all of the A-10. He’s joined by Isaiah Swope, a 5’10 guard who averaged 15.9 ppg on 36% shooting from deep on over eight attempts a game. He and Creighton transfer Josiah Dotzler will be the ball-handlers to watch next season.

Joining Avila in the frontcourt are forwards AJ Casey and Kalu Anya. The 6’8 forward from Brown averaged 9.6 ppg and 7.4 rpg and Anya is one of the better defenders from the Ivy League. Casey played limited minutes in two years at Miami but is a former top-50 prospect who still has potential.

Kobe Johnson started 26 games at West Virginia last season and averaged 6.0 ppg and 2.2 apg. The 6’3 guard could excel in this new offensive system and with leading scorer Gibson Jimerson back to provide elite spacing, Saint Louis could go from the bottom of the league to the top next season.
