NCAA Basketball: Top 25 team winners from 2024 transfer portal results
4. Kansas State Wildcats
If this piece had been done a month ago, Kansas State wouldn’t have been anywhere near close to being on the list. That’s because three of the team’s top four transfer pickups came in the last month; taking the team from an interesting Big 12 roster to one that could be a threat to win it.
The first set of pickups were all in the backcourt, led by Dug McDaniel. The former Michigan guard led the team with 16.3 ppg and 4.7 apg on 37% shooting from deep. Max Jones is a 6’5 guard from Cal State Fullerton, second on the team with 15.3 ppg on 39% shooting from deep. CJ Jones (11.4 ppg and 4.8 apg) is another point guard from UIC, while Brendan Hausen is another three-point threat from Villanova.
Then there’s the frontcourt pickups. Baye Fall is a former 5-star prospect who could be a breakout candidate after not playing mich at Arkansas. Achor Achor (16.1 ppg) was a star offensive player at Samford, while Ugonna Onyenso was a star defender in limited minutes at Kentucky, including a 10-block game.
The recent addition of Illinois starting forward Coleman Hawkins gives Kansas State one of the best frontcourts in the Big 12, with plenty of shooting potential on the outside. It’s set up to be the deepest roster Coach Jerome Tang has had since arriving and one with high potential on paper.
