NCAA Basketball: Way-too-early top-25 power rankings for 2024-25 season
18. Boise State Broncos
2023-24 season record: 22-11 (13-5 Mountain West)
The Broncos have become one of the more consistent NCAA Basketball programs in the Coach Leon Rice era, coming off another NCAA Tournament appearance. And they’re in a good spot to get back there and potentially win the Mountain West. They return a good portion of their overall production, outside of starting guard and coach’s son, Max Rice.
The top three scorers are back, led by star forward, Tyson Degenhart. He led the Broncos with 16.7 ppg and 6.2 rpg this past season and will be the favorite for Conference Player of the Year next season. With both Chibuzo Agbo and O’Mar Stanley back, they’ll easily have one of the top frontcourts in NCAA Basketball as well.
Boise State was looking to upgrade the backcourt to pair with Roddie Anderson Ill. They recently landed Alvaro Cardenas, a 6’1 guard from Spain who averaged 13.2 ppg and 5.5 apg last season at San Jose State. He’s familiar with the Mountain West and gives the team a lead guard to play next to Anderson, replacing Rice in the lineup.
The Broncos may want to look for another shooter for backcourt depth but there’s plenty of love about the projected starting lineup they currently have. Teams like San Diego State and New Mexico will remain formidable but right now, Boise State is the team to beat in the league.
