Wagner
A very happy Selection Sunday for the Wagner men's basketball team.
Led by Coach Donald Copeland, a former player for Seton Hall is now in his second season at Wagner and takes them to their first appearance dating back to 2003 as the No. 15 seed. The Seahawks lost to Pittsburgh by a score of 87-61.
An interesting fact to know about this Wagner program out of Staten Island, New York, is that it used to be a Division II team. They made the NCAA Tournament at that level back in 1967, 1968, and 1969.
There are only two players on this team who average double figures, as Melvin Council Jr., the junior from Rochester, New York, conducts the scoring efforts with 15 points and 6 rebounds, to go along with 4 assists. Another New York native (I wonder if RJ Davis knows either of these guys by chance), Tahron Allen, a junior, notches 11 points, 5 rebounds, and just one assist per contest. Although he swished in 47% of his attempts from beyond the arc, he made 26 out of 55 shots.
North Carolina has never been matched up with the Seahawks; however, up until now, it has become a possibility.
Regardless of who UNC gets paired up with, they must be ready to give it all they have. It's do-or-die season from here on out and are capable of rising to the top.
This is March Madness.
