Notre Dame Basketball: 5-star commit Jalen Haralson part of historic recruiting week
When Coach Micah Shrewsberry took over at Notre Dame Basketball, there was plenty of optimism that the program could return to ACC contention. The hope was that recruiting would pick up, including landing top-100 prospects, which can be difficult due to the university's academic standards.
However, that wasn't a problem for the Fighting Irish this past week, having the greatest week on the recruiting trail in program history. It started with landing Brady Koehler, a four-star power forward prospect that can shoot the ball at a high level. With the frontcourt depth having been an issue, there's a clear path for Koehler to get playing time.
But what got Notre Dame on the national radar was the next pickup. Jalen Haralson is a 5-star guard prospect from Indiana who was also considering both the Hoosiers and Michigan State Spartans. The Irish somehow pulled out the massive recruiting win, landing the highest-rated commitment in program history.
And the Irish wasn't done yet. On Friday, they landed Ryder Frost, a four-star wing who is known for being one of the best pure shooters in the entire 2025 recruiting class. That's big for an offensive system that thrives on spacing and shooting and these guys will help maximize that a year from now.
This trio gives Notre Dame the current No. 1 overall recruiting class nationally. It's not going to last once the rest of the 5-star prospects ultimately choose their college homes in the future. Still, between this current group and the top-25 incoming freshmen class will be great building blocks for the future.
If Notre Dame can keep the starting guard duo of Markus Burton and Braeden Shrewsberry for at least one more year after this season, they'll have a top-25 roster and the best team since 2022, when they made the NCAA Tournament Round of 32.
It's still early for Coach Shrewsberry but it's hard not to be happy with how things are looking for the program.
