Oakland is a school located in Rochester, Michigan which is a suburb of Detroit. The Golden Grizzlies are in the Horizon League which is best known for when Butler was a member and went to back-to-back national championship games in 2010 and 2011.
The Golden Grizzlies have been pretty consistent before this season which has been highlighted by a road win at Oklahoma State and a Gulf Coast Showcase tournament title in in 2021. However, this season was their first outright regular season Horizon League title and conference tournament championship.
