Oklahoma State Basketball: 10 candidates to replace Mike Boynton as Head Coach

When approaching head coaching searches it’s always important to learn from your mistakes. We’re not saying Boynton was a mistake for Oklahoma State; he was a good guy who did win a decent amount of games, but he wasn’t the right guy for this program long-term. He didn’t have any head coaching experience prior to the Cowboys promoting him, though that doesn’t mean we’re discounting other coaches in that same boat.
Case played at Kansas in the mid-2000’s, winning a national title in his final season back in 2008. He worked at a few schools as a full-time assistant before returning to Kansas in 2016 as video coordinator under Bill Self. Five years later he was promoted to a full-time assistant and helped lead the Jayhawks to another national title thereafter. Case now has three years under his belt recruiting and coaching full-time with the Jayhawks.
Not only does he have plenty of experience coaching and winning in the Big 12, Case also has a personal connection, as his father played ball at Oklahoma State four decades ago as a teammate of Bill Self. On the surface, Case doesn’t have a ton of experience, with those earlier seasons coming at Southeast Missouri State and Houston Baptist. The Cowboys may want someone with more hands-on coaching experience, or even head coaching experience, but he’s a name to consider.
