Bryce Drew

We’re on the precipice of March Madness, so you’ve likely seen the video of Drew’s buzzer beating shot from the 1998 NCAA Tournament. We’re not considering him as a candidate based on his playing career, but a sneaky good run in recent years. He also has a power conference head coaching experience, which is something you won’t see from most of the names on today’s list.

Born in Baton Rouge, Drew starred at Valparaiso under his father, hitting that memorable shot before a six-year NBA career. His coaching career began at his alma mater as an assistant before taking over the program in 2011. He led Valparaiso twice to the NCAA Tournament before departing for Vanderbilt, though he was fired after just three seasons. Grand Canyon hired him in 2020 and he’s already led them to a pair of conference titles and two trips to the Big Dance.

Things went south for Drew at Vanderbilt due to injuries and other issues, but it’s about time he gets a second shot at the highest level. He’s a proven winner with both Valparaiso and Grand Canyon, not just putting together great teams but coaching them to their potential. Drew has led three different squads to the NCAA Tournament and has connections throughout the sport. He’d also become a head coach in the same conference as his brother Scott at Baylor.
