8. Washington Huskies - 10-7 (2-4)
The injury to center Franck Kepnang seems to have been a big deal for the Huskies, who’ve lost 4 of the last 6 games without him. The recent loss on the road to UCLA was a massive resume-hit for any postseason hopes, despite Sahvir Wheeler and Keion Brooks (20.1 ppg and 7.1 rpg) playing at all-conference levels.
Things have the potential to get worse for Washington, as they go on the road this upcoming week. Both Cal and Stanford have been playing better as of late and an 0-2 stretch is possible if the Huskies can’t get more out of its supporting cast.
7. Stanford Cardinal - 9-7 (4-2)
It might be too little, too late for the Cardinal after a poor non-conference but they’ve won 4 of their last 5 games, including a big home upset over Arizona, along with road wins over Oregon State and UCLA. In the recent 79-73 win over Utah, forward Maxime Raynaud produced 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead all players.
Stanford has a chance to stay near the top of the standings, having both Washington and Washington State at home this week. If the team keeps playing well, Coach Jerod Haase has a shot to get off the hot seat this offseason.
