Pittsburgh Basketball: 6 potential forward targets after missing out on Adou Thiero
Zane Meeks - Arizona State Sun Devils
2023-24 season stats: 3.6 ppg and 1.2 rpg (5 games)
Injuries limited the 6’9 forward to not playing much this season, with just a trio of games with six points on his resume. In the year prior at San Francisco, Meeks averaged 10.8 ppg and 5.1 rpg, shooting 48% from the field and is a career 34% shooting from deep.
Meeks is looking for his fourth team in six years and has played on the west coast his entire college career. Would he be willing to go east to Pittsburgh? That remains to be seen but the Panthers could offer him a rotation spot for an ACC team that should be competitive.
Supreme Cook - Georgetown Hoyas
2023-24 season stats: 10.5 ppg and 8.0 rpg
The 6’9 forward has 105 career starts at both Fairfield and Georgetown. Cook showed that he can play at the high-major level, being the best big man for the Hoyas this past season. He shot 58% from the field and produced six double-doubles, including 20 points and 11 rebounds versus Seton Hall.
There are pros and cons with adding Cook, who hails from New Jersey on the east coast. He’s a great rebounder, something that Pittsburgh lacks in its frontcourt and can score inside. However, he’s not a shooter at all and may have to play the center position behind Corhen and just have Diaz-Graham play exclusively at the four-spot. Still, he’s one of the better frontcourt options available and fills other needs besides spacing.
