Ranking the best backcourts in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament
No. 2: Texas A&M
If No. 9 seed Texas A&M is going to make a run in the South Region, it will have to be because of its fantastic backcourt of Wayde Taylor IV and Tyrece Radford. In fact, that duo could carry the Aggies to an upset or two in the Big Dance.
Taylor IV averages a salty 18.9 PPG. He was a first-team All-SEC honoree this season and he's one of the nation's best guards.
The junior is not an elite outside shooter (only 31.5% from 3-point range this season) but he makes up for that with his ability to get to the rim and with a strong mid-range game. Earlier this year, he hung 41 points on Arkansas, and in all, he has hit or topped the 20-point mark 12 times.
Radford is no slouch either. He averages an even 16 PPG this year but like Taylor IV, he is not a great outside shooter (27.1% from 3-point range).
This season, he has nine 20-point games. That includes a season-best 28 against Kentucky and 27 against a good Tennessee team.
When the Aggies meet Nebraska in the first round, the game could be won in the backcourt given how good both teams are in that area. A slight edge has to go to A&M here because Taylor IV and Radford are two of the most dynamic scorers in the South Region.
