Rick Pitino’s intriguing comments, Seton Hall success among Big East storylines

5. UConn is the clear No. 1
UConn’s matchup against Marquette was touted to be one of the best games on the entire calendar, and then the game was actually played. The Huskies were completely dominant and there was no doubt who the best team in the Big East was. Marquette came in as the fourth-best team in the nation and did not even put up a fight against this UConn team.
While Marquette has had their moments of struggle this season, this was more of a statement for UConn’s dominance than it was about how good Marquette is or not. Donovan Clingan is back in form and really showing off his dominance, and the entire lineup is just firing on all cylinders at the right time to play this well.
For this two-loss team, they have established themselves as the top team not just in the Big East, but the entire nation. Especially after the loss by Purdue, it is now just a battle between UConn and Houston as to who deserves that top spot, but until anything happens there is no reason for any team to be above UConn in terms of the polls.
The Huskies are well on their way to picking up a No.1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and given the fact they won a National Championship last year without that, there is no reason for them to not be the favorites to win it all.
