Robert Morris Basketball: Ranking the 11 non-conference opponents for 2024-25 season
8. Lindenwood Lions - 2023-24 record: 9-22 (3-15 OVC)
The Lions are another fairly new D-I program, entering its third year after finishing last in the OVC last season. They lost both of their double-digit scorers, including Keenon Cole (18.1 ppg and 6.2 rpg). They return two starters in Jeremiah Talton and Jaylon McDaniel, who each averaged 7.0 ppg last season. Two newcomers to watch are Reggie Bass (who averaged 8.2 ppg at Kent State and former MAC ROY) and Markeith Browning, who spent the last three years at Milwaukee, averaging around 8.0 ppg. He’ll be a familiar face for RMU as a likely backcourt starter.
7. Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash - 2023-24 record: 8-22 (3-13 NEC)
RMU has gotten better of its rivals ever since making the move to the Horizon League. But despite losing their top three scorers, Saint Francis, who was one of the youngest teams in the country last season, will be older this time around. Starters Bobby Rosenberger and Aaron Telbert are back to lead the backcourt, while Aidan Harris and Gestin Liberis are primed for larger roles in the frontcourt. As last year showed, look for this game to be another hard-fought battle
6. Canisius Golden Griffins - 2023-24 record: 14-18 (8-12 MAAC)
The top five scorers from last season are gone for Canisius, including Tre Dinkins and Frank Mitchell. Among the notable returning players are Cam Palesse and Youri Fritz, along with a few key transfers. Tana Kopa is a 6’8 forward from Long Island who averaged over 12.0 ppg, while Paul McMillan IV is a veteran guard from Central Michigan, who averaged over 8.0 ppg. If former BC/UMass forward Gianni Thompson can be an effective role piece insider, the Griffins could be a factor in the MAAC.
5. Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens - 2023-24 season record: 19-14 (10-8 CAA)
Of the top six scorers, four of them are gone, including the two stars, Jyare Davis and Gerald Drumgoole. Veteran guards Cavan Reilly and Niels Lane are back as the new lead guards, joined by former top-100 prospect John Camden, as well Tahron Allen, a 6’4 guard transfer from Wagner who averaged 10.5 ppg and 5.1 rpg last season. Delaware got the win in Pittsburgh before so the Colonials will look to even up the series at their place in a few months.
