Getting UConn in foul trouble will be a key to San Diego State's success

The final key for Brian Dutcher's team, at least for this article is for the Aztecs to be aggressive on the offensive end of the floor with the intent of getting the Huskies into foul trouble. Both teams play a deliberate style of offense, that doesn't necessarily mean slow as UConn averages over 81 points per game, but both teams do average over 17 seconds per possession. The teams that have been successful against the Huskies this season have gotten them in foul trouble, testing their depth and taking advantage of the free-throw line.

Much like UConn’s rebounding stats, when they have had trouble this year, they have gotten into a bit of foul trouble. The Huskies average 16 fouls per game, but in the games they have found themselves on the losing end they have gone over that number. In those games, they have committed just over 18 fouls per game. Those fouls led to 18 free throws per game for their opponents and being outscored by a total of 10 points from the line. If San Diego State wants to exact some revenge on the Huskies they must be aggressive offensively and try to get the Huskies into foul trouble.

That may be the one key that is outside of their identity because even though the Aztecs average over 20 free-throw attempts per contest, LeDee has shot 304 of their 737 attempts with nobody else on the roster shooting more than 92. That will have to change if the Aztecs want to get UConn into foul trouble and take advantage of their 73% shooting percentage.
