SEC Basketball: 2024 offseason grades for each team
By Justin Wiles
Arkansas Razorbacks - Grade: A-
After a truly disappointing season last year, Arkansas looks poised to easily be one of the most improved teams in the country in just a couple of months. After the season ended there were a ton of moving parts in both the alignment of the conferences and in the coaching ranks. And with all these shake-ups, the Razorbacks landed one of the top coaches in college basketball history - John Calipari.
With the departure of former coach Eric Musselman, nearly the entire roster bolted looking for greener pastures. But Coach Cal took the roster upheaval in stride signing arguably the top transfer class in the country. A few players followed Calipari from Kentucky, such as DJ Wagner, Zvonimir Ivisic, and Adou Thiero, but he was also able to sign Jonas Aidoo away from Tennessee as well as Johnell Davis from Florida Atlantic.
Aidoo averaged 11.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks last season, and quickly gives the Razorbacks some defensive legitimacy moving into next season. He was one of the key pieces on that end of the court for Tennessee last season and fills a huge need for Calipari and the Razorbacks. Davis averaged 18.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals for FAU last season. Davis, who was arguably the top player in the transfer portal, should be Arkansas’s leader from day one.
Cal will have his work cut out for him the rest of the summer getting his team ready to take on the college basketball season. There is little doubt that he will get the most out of this roster and pull Arkansas out of the basement of the conference standings in just his first year with the team.
