8. Rodney Terry (Texas)

Terry’s coaching career began at the high school level before prominent stints at schools like Baylor and Texas. His collegiate head coaching career started in 2011 with seven solid years at Fresno State, departing only to take the UTEP job. Terry took Fresno State to the Big Dance in 2016 and had UTEP trending in the right direction before leaving to join Chris Beard’s staff at Texas.

With nine previous years of experience the Longhorns, Terry was not just a valuable addition to the Texas staff. He proved important after Beard’s firing, stepping in as interim head coach and leading the Longhorns to the Elite Eight last year. He led Texas back to the NCAA Tournament in his first full season and now leads the program as they transition from the Big 12 to the SEC. With four Tourney wins under his belt, it’s fair to say that Terry is a name trending up in coaching circles.

7. Porter Moser (Oklahoma)

An Illinois native who played ball at Creighton, Moser is a longtime coach whose name really rose to relevance in recent years. He had middling success as head coach at Little Rock and Illinois State, not becoming a household name until his decade leading Loyola Chicago. He built success with the Ramblers, taking them to the Final Four in 2018 as an 11-seed before a nice Sweet Sixteen run just three years later.

Moser left Chicago for Oklahoma in 2021, leaving behind a lot of success in that last half decade with the Ramblers. His first three years with the Sooners haven’t exactly gone according to plan, as the Sooners have yet to reach the Big Dance or finish above .500 in conference play. Oklahoma was a bubble team that fell just short last season and looked better. However, Moser has a new challenge ahead as the Sooners transition into the SEC this season.
