After a successful 25-win season that ended with an NIT championship, the Pirates had a ton of momentum to work with heading into this season. However, the transfer portal hit this team hard with a majority of the roster not returning. This includes star guard Kadary Richmond who transferred to Big East rival St. John's in a heartbreaking move.

But the Pirates did their own work in the portal with Shaheen Holloway, and have put together a variety of transfers that fit under the Holloway style of play. The Seton Hall Pirates will not be fun to play against, the expectations should be a gritty and rugged team that is going to be impressive defensively, but may not be able to score the basketball as well as a Pirate fan would like.

For Holloway, this is a time to truly prove himself as a head coach, this was a year where recruiting was tough, this roster was forced to change much more than any team would ever expect, and now you have to pick up the pieces and put a good season together. So when it comes to expectations, while the rest of the Big East got better, this team cannot fall behind its peers.
