Seton Hall Basketball: Bethune-Cookman transfer Zion Harmon commits to Seton Hall

Shaheen Holloway and Seton Hall Basketball added a big piece to its roster on Saturday afternoon as Bethune-Cookman transfer Zion Harmon committed to the Pirates. 

Zion Harmon is a 6-foot guard and is ranked as a three-star transfer while being labeled as the No. 49 overall best point guard in the portal according to 247Sports. As a recruit, Harmon was a four-star prospect, ranked No. 80 in the country and No. 1 in the state of Kentucky. 

This past season, as a sophomore, Harmon scored an average of 14.6 points per game and contributed with 2.1 boards and four assists per contest. He shot 38.6% from the field and a low 25.8% from three. Harmon was awarded first-team All-SWAC at the conclusion of this season. 

As a freshman, during the 2022-23 season, Harmon averaged 13.7 points, two rebounds and 2.8 assists on an average of 28.9 minutes per game. From deep, Harmon shot 33.8% and from the field, he shot 39.7%. 

Out of High School, Harmon was committed to Western Kentucky where he dropped out during the 2021-22 season before transferring to Bethune-Cookman. He showed this past season that he can play at a high-level but that was at the mid-major ranks. Can Harmon do it at the Big East level?

Coach Shaheen Holloway lost a huge piece of his roster this off-season as point guard Kadary Richmond - who averaged 15.7 points and seven rebounds per game - transferred to Big East rival, St. John’s. Expect to see Harmon fill Richmond’s role at the point in what's going to be a completely revamped roster, with all five starters gone.

This is going to be one of the riskier transfer portal pickups in the Big East to this point but Harmon has the kind of ceiling that can make Seton Hall a contender next season.
