St. John's Basketball: 3 keys for Red Storm to upset No. 1 UConn at MSG

2. Guard play needs to be outstanding
While a lot of the pressure is going to be on Soriano to step up and make some magic happen in the paint, he cannot do this all by himself. The added pressure goes on to Daniss Jenkins, who had a great performance in the loss to Xavier. But St. John's fans are not worried about his production, but that of those around him in what is supposed to be a deep lineup in terms of their guards.
They will need players like Jordan Dingle to come through with their shooting ability, because stretching the floor makes it much easier to succeed in all other areas, especially the rebounding part of the game. If the threes can start falling, defensively this Huskies team will have to come up a bit more, and Soriano can go to work. With this team having dropped four out of its last five, they need to be firing on all cylinders and pick up this win against UConn.
Another player to look out for is Nahiem Alleyne, who may get some minutes against his former team. And also Chris Ledlum who played 31 minutes in the loss to Xavier. The Harvard transfer is averaging just under 10 points per game, and after putting up only seven points in the loss he could be a player that has a bounce-back game against the top team in the nation. When pulling off an upset, players who have struggled will need to start clicking, and when the pressure is on, that is when those players might do exactly that.
