2. PG, Deivon Smith

One of the best three-point shooters in the entire country, Deivon Smith was one of the more prominent additions to this St. Johns team heading into next season. Smith shot 40.8% from three last season and averaged 13.3 points, 7.1 assists, and 6.3 rebounds. He has the ability to impact the game from many different facets and has proven that during his time with the Utah Utes over the last four seasons.

Smith will be the primary ball handler for this offense, but he may also have to spend some time playing off-ball with some of the other additions the Red Storm made this off-season. Experienced guards carry a lot of weight in today’s era of college basketball, and it seems like that is the route that Rick Pitino chose to take in his roster formation.

Smith will have a vital role in this offense. The biggest area of improvement that needs to be improved in his game is his free throw shooting. Smith has never shot at or above 70% from the free throw line in his four collegiate seasons. Last year, he shot 67.7% from the chairty-stripe.
