Jarron Collins

This list is in alphabetical order, so it’s a coincidence that the first name on the list is the only one that isn’t a current collegiate head coach. Stanford might opt for someone without head coaching experience; it’s what they did when they hired Dawkins sixteen years ago away from Duke. If they go down this road, watch out for this particular NBA coach and former Cardinal.

A native of southern California, Collins opted to spend his playing days at Stanford in northern California, starring in Palo Alto between 1997 and 2001. A late draft pick, Collins would play in the NBA for parts of the next ten seasons. Later finding employment as a TV analyst and scout, his coaching career began on Steve Kerr’s bench with the Golden State Warriors. Collins spent seven years in Golden State and has been an assistant with the New Orleans Pelicans since 2021.

Hiring someone with zero collegiate or head coaching experience is a risk, and it’s come back to haunt schools more often than not in recent years. Collins would likely shine as a recruiter and developer, but there’s always that chance you take by throwing NBA games into an ever-changing college game. Collins likely won’t be at the top of these lists but he’s certainly a familiar name to consider.
