We’re not going to keep stressing out about the academic rigors of Stanford’s enrollment and how it effects the basketball team and other sports. There are some pretty hot names on the coaching circles who are great candidates for the Cardinal, and Medved certainly fits that mold.

A graduate of Minnesota, Medved bounced around as a collegiate assistant for several years, including stints at his alma mater and with Colorado State, mostly under Tim Miles. His head coaching career started with a nice rebuild at Furman and one solid year at Drake before taking the top job at Colorado State. He’s led the Rams for six years, a journey that’s included four 20-win seasons and will feature a second trip to the Big Dance this year.

With Colorado State looking much greater in recent years, the biggest question for Medved is about interest. He’s shown he can win in three different leagues, albeit for different periods of time, so he’s earned at least a shot at a power conference team. Would that opportunity really be out west at Stanford? It’s possible the Cardinal could lure him in, especially with the new challenge of joining the ACC, but Medved is likely waiting for somewhere else to open up one day.
