Tennessee State Women's Basketball VS Morehead State: OVC Tournament Recap

The Tennessee State women's basketball team clinched a victory against Morehead State in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament. The game, held at Ford Center in Evansville, IN, saw the Tigers dominate defensively, restricting the Eagles to a mere 18.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The final scoreline of 58-50 in favor of Tennessee State not only highlighted their defensive resilience but also marked their first OVC Tournament win since the 2021-22 season.
Throughout the game, the Tigers displayed a balanced offensive effort with three players scoring in double figures. Leading the charge was Eboni Williams, whose stellar performance included a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Alongside her, Sanaa' St. Andre contributed 12 points and three steals, while Lyric Cole added 10 points to the scoreboard.
Crucially, Williams' presence on the boards proved pivotal for Tennessee State, particularly on the offensive end, where she grabbed six crucial offensive rebounds, translating into eight second-chance points for her team.
Defensively, Tennessee State maintained relentless pressure, limiting Morehead State to a paltry 18.8 percent shooting from 3-point range and 34 percent overall from the field.
The Tigers set the tone early, establishing a lead in the first quarter and capitalizing on opportunities in the paint. Despite a brief resurgence from Morehead State, Tennessee State remained resilient, entering halftime with a narrow 28-26 advantage.

In the fourth quarter, Tennessee State sealed the victory convincingly, outscoring the Eagles 16-12. The Tigers capitalized on their strengths, particularly in the post, where they scored 10 of their 16 points to secure a well-deserved win.
