The history of No. 11 seeds in the Final Four
No. 11 Seed | Year |

Loyola-Chicago | 2018 |
Never before 2018 had someone other than a player or a coach become the star of the NCAA Tournament. However, when No. 11 seed Loyola-Chicago made its run to the Final Four, it was team chaplain Sister Jean who stole hearts across the country.
Traveling to each NCAA Tournament game, the then-98-year-old became the team's good luck charm. She served as a figure that the team and the nation could rally around and she remains ingrained in the minds of college basketball fans to this day.
The Ramblers won the Missouri Valley Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed. They then beat three straight top-25 teams to open the Big Dance.
The first was Miami, the No. 6 seed in the region and the No. 22 team in the country. Next was No. 3 seed Tennessee which was ranked 13. Then, in the Sweet 16, the Ramblers toppled No. 7 seed Nevada (ranked 24th nationally). Interestingly, all three of those games were one-possession affairs that saw Loyola-Chicago hit a game-winning shot in the final seconds.
Things were easier in the Elite 8 against No. 9 seed Kansas State. The Ramblers would take home a 78-62 win to reach the Final Four. However, in the Final Four, the run would end with a 69-57 loss to No. 7 seed Michigan. Michigan would then lose the National Championship Game to Villanova.
