UConn Basketball: 3 keys for Huskies in Sweet 16 matchup against San Diego State
By John Makuch
2. Feed Donovan Clingan
However, if the threes are not falling, the Huskies will have to fall back on their superstar and best player, Donovan Clingan. Last year in the whole tournament and against this team, Adama Sanogo dominated and put up great performance after great performance. Now it is Clingan's turn to do the same on another championship run.
He had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds in the Northwestern game, and he may need to do more this time around depending on how the game goes. Jay Pal and Jaedon LeDee will have their work cut out for them when it comes to helping slow down Clingan, but this team plays solid defense and will need to lock in on the big man.
He has dominated in just about every matchup he has had to face all season long, but this tournament is where he needs to hit that second gear. He will not play 30 minutes given his previous injuries and the ability that Samson Johnson provides, but Clingan makes just as big of an impact despite not playing as many minutes as the other stars. Clingan is the identity of this UConn team, and this team goes as far as he will take them. His presence inside allows the team to take open looks from outside, but it is just a matter of if those shots fall.
