UConn Basketball: 3 keys for Huskies to defeat Alabama in Final Four matchup
By John Makuch
1. Figure out the outside shot, still.
There were not a lot of threes made in this game, but the UConn Huskies have not done a great job hitting their threes throughout this whole tournament. While they destroyed Illinois, they only hit three total threes and shot 17.6 percent from behind the arc. While they shot it well against San Diego State, the inconsistencies were seen as they struggled to hit from distance despite how dominant they were.
You cannot deal with a hot and cold situation here, especially because you are now in the final four, all cylinders have to be firing off as fast as they possibly can. Look for Cam Spencer, Tristen Newton, and Alex Karaban to get a lot of looks from three early, and the pace of the game will be dictated by the early goings, and what team can give them with this much knowledge.
The shooters on this UConn team do not necessarily need to light it up from outside, but they need to find that consistent stroke to give them that option when it comes to their ability to score in this game. A lot of their scoring has been from inside though, also including Stephon Castle who has now started to hear his name talked about among the NBA world of things.
But these guards for UConn will need to step up and knock down shots because the Crimson Tide will hit their clutch shots, so the Huskies need to dominate before it gets to the clutch. If UConn plays the way they have played all year, then they will be dancing all the way to another National Championship. But if not, Bama may find themselves as the team that took down Goliath.
