UConn Basketball: Ranking all 6 of Huskies' total national championships
By John Makuch
5. 2010-2011, The Final Jim Calhoun Title
This is a nice trip back to the memory lane that was the original Big East. This was one of UConn's championships that just seemed unlikely, but this program just finds a way to flip the switch on when it is tournament time. They finished 9-9 in the Big East but somehow found a way to make a run.
You obviously have the story of cardiac Kemba Walker, and the talent of Jeremy Lamb, Shabazz Napier, and Alex Oriakhi who all went to the NBA. But, this team had some tough losses in conference play and were unable to get the bye in the Big East Tournament. But, their miracle run was one to remember, including the iconic stepback by Walker for the win at the buzzer against Pittsburgh. After winning five straight and taking down Louisville for the title, they secured themselves a three-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
This team took down the likes of San Diego State, Arizona, and Kentucky before taking on Butler in the National Championship. They had tight games against Arizona and Kentucky, but the National Championship was not much of a stressful game.
Calhoun would coach one more season after this, but this was the perfect way to close out his time at UConn, by winning his third National Championship.
