UConn vs Iowa: 2024 NCAA Women's Tournament Final Four game preview, TV schedule
It's yet another Final Four appearance for UConn Women but they're a rare underdog, as they take on Caitlin Clark and 1-seed Iowa. Can the Huskies pull out the victory?
TV schedule: Friday, April 5th, 9:00 pm ET (approx), ESPN
Arena: Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio
In one of the most-anticipated games in Women's NCAA Tournament history was Iowa vs LSU in the Elite 8, a rematch of the national title game a year ago. It ended up being a thrilling battle, which went in favor of the Hawkeyes, 94-87. Caitlin Clark, now the all-time leader in NCAA Basketball history, went for 41 points, seven rebounds, and 12 assists in the win, while Kate Martin chipped in with 21 points.
Clark, who has become one of the faces of the sport, is now looking to get back to the national title game. But she faces another superstar in Paige Bueckers, a former National Player of the Year winner herself. She averages 22.0 ppg and 3.9 apg on the season for UConn (33-5), who has overcome several key injuries on the roster to make the Final Four yet again under Coach Geno Auriemma.
The Huskies' path to the Final Four includes wins over Jackson State, Syracuse, and Duke, before beating USC, 80-73 in a battle of superstars. Bueckers was able to win her matchup with JuJu Watkins, going for 28 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists in the win. Forward Aaliyah Edwards, an All-Big East performer herself, went for 24 points as well.
UConn's depth is going to be tested against an Iowa team that wants to play fast. They had several fastbreak opportunities in the win over LSU, another team who doesn't have much of a bench. This time around, look for Bueckers to take on Clark defensively and try to slow her down.
In reality, the Hawkeyes' offense might just be too much to overcome for the Huskies. Both star guards should have big games but UConn's injuries should finally catch up to them in a shootout game.
Prediction: Iowa 84, UConn 80
