Eric Musselman

Swinging for the fences is important for the Trojans and this next name might be the best of the realistic candidates for the job. Musselman has plenty of experience coaching in California, has been a successful head coach on the West Coast, and has proved in recent years that he’s apt to win in this new era of college basketball recruiting.

Musselman played college ball at San Diego in the 80’s and has coached numerous places over the years. He was head coach of both the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings and had his first collegiate head coaching experience leading Nevada, taking the Wolf Pack to 110 wins in four years. Arkansas hired him in 2019 and have seen two Elite Eight’s and three Sweet Sixteen’s, though the Razorbacks really struggled this past season.

If USC ponies up and has the resources then Musselman can certainly be lured back to the West Coast. He’s worked in California several times in his career and was outstanding out west with Nevada in the MWC. Musselman has also cultivated success with Arkansas, which is far closer to Big Ten country. He checks a lot of boxes for the Trojans; it’s all about what he himself wants for his future.
