USC Basketball: 10 candidates to replace Andy Enfield as Head Coach
By Joey Loose
Jerome Tang
Before Florida Gulf Coast tipped off against Georgetown, no one would’ve predicted that Enfield would end up at USC just a few weeks later. He used those two great seasons to parlay himself into quite the head coaching gig and subsequent career. While the move seems bizarre on the surface, bringing Tang to Los Angeles could be a similar move that might work even better for the Trojans.
Tang was born in Trinidad and Tobago before moving to Texas early in his life where he’s spent much of his career. He was a high school coach for a decade before Scott Drew brought him onto his first Baylor staff back in 2003. Tang would help Drew rebuild history in Waco, including that national title in 2021. Tang’s collegiate head coaching career began just two seasons ago but began on a high note. Tang led Kansas State to the Elite Eight in his first season with the Wildcats.
There are rumors of tension between Tang and the administration at Kansas State and USC could certainly offer him a sweeter and more lucrative deal. That instant success is certainly something that USC would love to see, as Tang really utilized the Transfer Portal well in his first head coaching job. A negative is that Tang has never worked or lived on the West Coast, so it’s uncertain if he’d want to make that transition.
