8. San Diego Toreros - 10-9 (0-4)

The Toreros are winless in WCC Basketball, partly due to the tough schedule to open up. They have losses to Gonzaga, San Francisco, and Saint Mary’s, along with a home loss to Pepperdine. It was without Deuce Turner, who has become a star for them in the past couple of weeks. The junior guard had 34 points against the Gaels and 24 versus Gonzaga.

San Diego plays 5 of its next 7 games on the road, including Portland this Thursday. Gonzaga follows them at home, with the Toreros looking to avoid a season sweep.

7. Pepperdine Waves - 9-10 (2-2)

After losing to Gonzaga and Santa Clara to open WCC play, the Waves have been playing its best basketball of the season. They’ve won their last two games, beating Pacific and San Diego on the road. In the 83-77 victory over the Toreros, Michael Ajayi went for 24 points and 12 rebounds, joined by Houston Mallette with 23 points and five assists.

The Waves lost by 26 points to the Bulldogs two weeks ago on the road but will they have a better effort at home this Thursday? They have them and LMU this week in a chance to make more noise against better competition.
