West Virginia picks up a transfer commitment from talented scorer from Detroit Mercy, Jayden Stone. Darian DeVries' roster is still taking shape, but Mountaineer fans have something to be excited about.

Darian DeVries continues to form his roster for his first season as head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers. As the calendar turns to June, the Mountaineers have just 2 remaining scholarship to complete their roster following the signing of Detroit Mercy transfer, Jayden Stone. Jayden Stone will have one year of eligibility remaining and will look to make an immediate impact on a Mountaineer team that looks to find a new identity in the 2024-25 season. DeVries has constructed the current roster full of talented transfers and incoming freshmen.

Let’s get to know their latest pickup, Jayden Stone.

Stone has spent the last two seasons at Detroit Mercy. Detroit Mercy of the Horizon Conference notably won just 1 game in the 2023-24 season, finishing with a record of 1-31. Stone led the way for them offensively, and finished second in the league in scoring with 20.8 points per game.

2023-24

20.8 PPG | 5.6 RPG | 2.7 APG | 42.2 FG% | 31.2 3PT % | 35.9 MPG | 26 games played

Hitting the portal over 2 months ago, Stone heard from the likes of Kansas, Florida, Ole Miss, New Mexico State, and Utah.

The 6-foot-4 senior guard will now look to carve out a role for himself as a contributing piece in the Mountaineer backcourt. A formidable scorer, Stone possesses an ability as a three-level scorer and can play a variety of positions within an offense. Now in early June, the Mountaineers roster is taking shape and DeVries has done so largely by way ofthe transfer portal.

With two roster spots left to fill, look for the Mountaineers to take some time and acquire a big man or two to complete their roster for the 2024-25 campaign.
