Which Midwest Region teams have fallen flat heading into the NCAA Tournament?
By Sam Fariss
Each region of the NCAA Tournament is comprised of 16 teams. In the Midwest Region, Purdue, Tennessee, Creighton, and Kansas make up the top-four seeds and are some of the best squads in the country this year.
Beyond the top four, there are a few teams that are peaking at the right time and there are teams that are floundering at the worst time possible.
These three programs are falling flat right when their seasons should be peaking:
- Overall record: 22-10
- Past six games: 2-4
The Jayhawks were vying for a No. 1 seed as they entered the Big 12 Tournament this season. After a first-round bye, Kansas was stunned by a 20-point loss to Cincinnati in the quarterfinals.
The conference tournament loss was Kansas’ second in a row by 20 points or more. Just a few days earlier, the Jayhawks lost to Houston by 30 points in their final regular season game.
Beyond the two 20+ point blowouts, Kansas has lost four out of its past six games, including a 68-76 loss to BYU and a 74-82 loss to Baylor.
With four of their 10 losses this season coming in the past month, the Jayhawks should be worried about every round they make it to.
