Daniel Freitag

Freitag, a three-star recruit from Minneapolis, Minnesota, is the Badgers’ prized recruit in the 2024 recruiting class. The 6-foot-2 point guard was one of the five finalists for the 2024 Minnesota Mr. Basketball Award, according to Jessee Temple, staff writer for The Athletic, where he averaged an impressive 26 PPG, seven APG and seven RPG, helping lead his team to a state championship.

Where Daniel Freitag fits in the rotation

Given the departure of three-year starting point guard Chucky Hepburn to Louisville, Freitag expects to enter Wisconsin’s rotation immediately, either as the initial starting point guard or the backup point guard. Whether Greg Gard wishes to roll with a veteran (Cam Hunter) at the starting PG spot or not, Fretiag will be a key contributor from the jump. Wisconsin still has Kamari McGee, who expects to play serviceable backup minutes in his facilitating, defensive-minded role, making it evident that Freitag and Hunter will likely battle for the starting PG spot.

Although only an incoming freshman, Freitag brings a well-rounded blend of athleticism and maturity as a basketball player. Throughout his stints in the grassroots circuit and high school, he has repeatedly shown his ability to be comfortable with the basketball in his hands and excel in high-pressure situations -- something Wisconsin will need heading into 2024-25.
