Xavier Basketball: Musketeers win Big East recruiting battle of 4-star Nyk Lewis
It's been a busy offseason for Xavier Basketball, getting into the mix with a number of class of 2025 prospects. One of them includes Nyk Lewis, a 6'1 point guard from Washington, D.C. He's a consensus 4-star recruit, ranked inside the top-50 in many services.
The Musketeers were one of six teams in the mix to land Lewis, who had recently limited his options. Besides LSU and Michigan, there were three other Big East programs involved, including Seton Hall, Creighton, and Georgetown. Most notable are the Hoyas, who hail from DC and need to keep local talent to be competitive in the conference.
But in the end, Lewis decided to leave the DMV area and join the Xavier Musketeers. He's the first commitment to the team for the 2025 class. Lewis is a 6'1 ball-handler who projects to be a two-way player, capable of scoring at a high level and defending on the perimeter.
Xavier doesn't have any true freshmen and will be one of the oldest rosters in NCAA Basketball next season. That includes guards such as Dayvion McKnight Jr., Dante Maddox, and Marcus Foster. The team does have sophomore guard Trey Green on the roster but there's a need for a new pipeline of quality guards that aren't just from the portal and can be developed into a capable future lead guard.
Just as important is that the Musketeers were able to beat out other Big East programs for his services. It's not just UConn playing well in the conference, Xavier has plenty of competition within the league to win these various recruiting battles.
Keep an eye on Xavier Basketball's next potential commits in the coming weeks, as they've been involved with several top-100 prospects. Question is, who will be the next to pick the Musketeers and join Lewis in the 2025 class?
