Providence Headlines a Weak Saturday Slate of Games

Friday delivered in a big way with games all across the board. Unfortunately, the Saturday schedule is one of the lightest of the season.

Feast Week hasn’t gotten going in full swing yet, and there have already been some fantastic games that were part of the neutral-site multi-team events.  Nebraska won the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City.  The Huskers jumped out to a considerable lead, and then Kansas State started making threes to cut into the lead.  Just like last night, Nebraska made enough plays to come out victorious in the end.  Here is something you never thought you would read.  The Huskers, yes, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have the longest winning streak in the country at 10 games.

Let’s get to the Baha-Mar Championship and talk about Purdue for a second.  The Boilermakers beat Texas Tech by 30.  Purdue is loaded again and looks like the class of the Big Ten.  Braden Smith showed out and showed why he is the frontrunner for the Wooden Award.  Texas Tech was a top-15 team but might be a little overrated.  This win was eye-opening and just shows how good Purdue is this season.

Those were the two best results of the day, but there was so much more that happened.  Wake Forest hit a buzzer-beater to beat Memphis.  There was a triple-double by BJ Edwards, who got his triple-double with 10 steals. Colorado State and Stanford suffered upset losses.  It was the Rams' first loss of the year. Lastly, Rutgers suffered an embarrassing loss to Central Connecticut at the RAC.  The Scarlet Knights are not very good.

It is a light Saturday slate, but as college football winds down, the Saturday schedule will be much better.  There is only one good game tomorrow, and it is between two teams with similar talent levels who will likely finish at the bottom of their respective leagues.

Providence Friars vs Penn State Nittany Lions - Hall of Fame Showcase from Mohegan Sun

Providence hasn’t looked great to start the season and likely won’t finish anywhere near the top of the Big East, and this version of the Big East is not a good one.  The Friars will have the best player on the floor in this game in Jason Edwards.  Edwards will lead a Friars team into a neutral-site game, a game in which they are favored, and will finally be the best team on the floor against a power conference school.

Penn State may be 5-0, but they do not project to be an excellent team, mainly because this year's talent level is lacking. The Nittany Lions may have one of the best freshmen in the country in Kayden Mingo.  The only problem is that if Mingo isn’t scoring 30 points every night, Penn State isn’t going to have much of a chance in the Big Ten.  The competition gets real for Penn State in a big way today.
