6. Derik Queen (Maryland)

Nearly every team in the country would likely welcome the addition of Queen to their rotation right now. Kevin Willard really found himself a stud in this 5-star center from Baltimore, and he’s a major reason why the Terrapins are trending towards another trip to March Madness despite playing in a very talent-heavy Big Ten.

Not only has Queen become an impact player and every day starter, he’s the top scorer and an influential rebounder for these Terrapins. Queen is averaging 15.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, making nearly 60% of his interior field goals with decent free throw shooting numbers as well. He announced his presence on opening night with 22 points and 20 rebounds against Manhattan and has starred against power conference programs as well. He dropped 22 points on Villanova, had 24 against Marquette, scored 26 at Purdue in early December, and has five double-doubles so far this season.

An effective 6’10 center who’s become one of the top options for Maryland, Queen is built for March Madness. If Maryland doesn’t falter and gets back to the Big Dance, he’s a matchup nightmare especially in the early rounds of the Tournament. He has overwhelmed smaller lineups and been a great scorer even against those stronger opponents like Marquette and Purdue. It’s all about opportunities ahead; if he keeps playing at a high level then he’ll get his shot in leading the Terrapins to glory.
