St. John’s Basketball and Coach Rick Pitino knew this would be a busy offseason. They lost three starters to eligibility, and Big East Player of the Year guard RJ Luis decided to enter the transfer portal. Even with former Providence forward Bryce Hopkins joining the fold, the Red Storm had a number of open spots to fill.
First, the Storm landed Joson Sanon, a freshman transfer from Arizona State who averaged 11.9 ppg on 37% shooting from three-point range. And on Wednesday, the team added another potent guard to the rotation.

Oziyah Sellers is a 6’5 guard who played his first two years at USC before transferring over to Stanford this past season. He broke out to average 13.7ppg, shooting 45% from the field and 40% from three-point range. That includes a season-high 27 points in a win over Florida State.
The additions of Sellers and Sanon are a sharp contrast to the group from this past season. As a team, St. John’s shot just 30% three-point range, one of the worst 20 teams in the nation. That put a cap on their potential in March, including losing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament as a 2 seed. These two perimeter commits will instantly raise the Red Storm’s perimeter shooting.
Plus, St. John’s still has a couple more key targets in the mix. Princeton transfer Xaivian Lee (16.9 ppg and 5.5 apg) shot 37% from deep this past season, while former 5-star prospect Ian Jackson (11.9 ppg) shot 40% from beyond the arc. If they can land both of them, then suddenly, St. John’s can boast one of the best shooting perimeter groups for the 2025-26 campaign.
Let’s see what the Red Storm does next in the next week, as more commitments could be coming.
