It’s been a massive week for RMU Basketball, completing a three-game road trip that ultimately included all wins. It started with a comeback win over Green Bay, followed by a win over Milwaukee, one of the top teams in the Horizon League.

The Colonials were at Youngstown State, a team that had already beaten them at their place. But this time around, RMU had the edge, getting a double-digit lead in the second half. The Penguins were able to tie it up late but Kam Woods won the game at the end with a layup.

Here are the takeaways from the game.

1. Kam Woods continues to excel

The three-game road trip's MVP must be Woods, who came through in the second half. He finished with 17 points (16 in the second half), along with six rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. His two-way game proved to be effective before, once again, coming through clutch at the end.

2. DJ Smith’s consistent run

While Josh Omofajo was held to two points due to foul trouble, the one guard who led RMU in the first half was DJ Smith, who scored most of his 13 total points then. He ends scoring in double figures in all of their last four wins, which has boosted their offense. Smith flies under the radar in the lineup but his play was very needed these past two weeks.

3. Better execution against Gabe Dynes

In the first matchup, forwards Amarion Dickerson and Alvaro Folguerias had struggled against the 7’3 center for the Penguins. The duo were much more effective this time around, combining to produce 30 points and 12 rebounds.

Dynes still managed to block six shots and scored eight points off the bench in 29 minutes. But the Colonials still went at him and were much more aggressive. Those adjustments made allowed RMU to move to 6-4 in league play and avoid the season sweep.
