In what should be a compelling college basketball matchup, the Saint Louis Billikens head to Olean to face the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Friday night.

Saint Louis enters the game ranked No. 24 nationally, riding a 12-game winning streak and sitting at 18–1 overall. The Billikens are coming off a four-point road win at Duquesne on Tuesday. St. Bonaventure also comes in off a victory, having defeated Loyola at home to improve to 12–7 on the season.

The Billikens are tied atop the Atlantic 10 standings with George Mason. Dayton suffered its first league loss earlier this week, making it a two-team race at the top for now. Saint Louis will host Dayton later this season but will not face George Mason until the final game of the regular season.

Saint Louis’s lone loss came on November 28, a buzzer-beater defeat at Stanford. Since then, the Billikens have not been beaten. While they lack a marquee résumé win, they do own a road victory at VCU, a home win over San Francisco, and have consistently found ways to close games during this winning streak.

St. Bonaventure opened the season with a win over Bradley and won its first five games before losing at North Carolina over Thanksgiving. The Bonnies also dropped a road game at Ohio before Atlantic 10 play began.

Conference play has been challenging. St. Bonaventure has losses at VCU and Saint Joseph, along with home defeats to Richmond and Fordham, plus a road loss at La Salle. January has been particularly difficult, with four losses in five games. After this matchup, the Bonnies travel to Duquesne and then host George Mason on January 31.

Game Outlook

This will not be an easy assignment for the visiting Billikens. Josh Schertz has Saint Louis playing at a high level, but a road conference game in January is rarely simple. Expect both teams to start with energy before the game settles into a half-court battle.

Ultimately, whichever team stays hot the longest should come away with the win. Given Saint Louis’s depth, balance, and ability to close games during its current run, the Billikens have a strong chance to leave Olean with another victory.
